Dr Lowly (Low Lee Yong) · Winner Collectors Art Prize
Singapore-born autodidactic abstract artist Dr. Low Lee Yong—known in the art world as Dr Lowly—transitioned from medicine and over two and a half decades in health tech entrepreneurship to art in 2021, pioneering his signature “Squeeze and Splatter” technique.
Art, his earliest passion, revealed itself when he won a contest at age eight and immersed himself in his school’s Art Club. Yet financial realities led him down the path of medicine, where he served diligently as a doctor for many years.
While his medical career flourished, Dr Lowly’s curiosity for technology and business was ignited. Over 25 years, he built a network of 2,000 clinics across Singapore, pioneering advancements in health tech through self-taught expertise in IT. Beneath this professional success, his deep love for art endured quietly, waiting to be rekindled.
That moment arrived in 2019 when he sold his health tech business—just before the world changed. The solitude of the 2020 COVID pandemic gave rise to an artistic renaissance. Rediscovering the emotional release of abstract art, he pivoted from precision to spontaneity, embracing fluidity and imperfection.
Through years of experimentation, Dr Lowly developed his signature “Squeeze and Splatter” technique. Using an array of unconventional tools—balloons, spoons, and even a toilet brush—he evokes chaos refined by control. Acrylic paint, selected for its non-toxic qualities, reflects his enduring commitment to health and well-being.
His work celebrates the impermanence of nature and the quiet strength of the human spirit. Each canvas captures ephemeral beauty and resilience, drawing inspiration from natural forms and emotional landscapes.
Every piece is a synthesis of energy and intent—an invitation to journey through tension, transformation, and truth. Dr Lowly’s art affirms that within uncertainty, there lies potential for grace, and within chaos, the spark of creation.
“Squeeze & Splatter is my freedom. In the clash of control and chaos, I find truth. Each piece holds movement, memory, mystery—shaped by tension, defined by touch.”— Dr Lowly
He has since presented solo exhibitions in prestigious private jet lounges in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou (Dec 2024–Mar 2025), and participated in global showcases including the Senses International Art Fair at MUST Museum, Italy, and Contemporary Venice at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello (Jan–Feb 2025).
His works have appeared in Spain’s Barbagelata Art Magazine (Sept 2024) and the University of Pennsylvania’s PJAS Journal (Aug 2024). His accolades include the “Luxembourg Art Prize” (2024), “New Great Masters in New York” Award (2024), and an Honourable Mention at Teravarna’s Juried Art Competition (USA, 2024).
“I speak in a language of controlled chaos, a visual dialogue I call “Squeeze & Splatter.” This technique is my liberation, allowing me to translate profound themes of ascent, memory, mystery, and wonder into tangible form. While each series tells its own story, a common thread of movement, texture, and the delicate balance between the accidental and the intentional binds them all.” __ Dr Lowly
