Katrin Alvarez · Winner Collectors Art Prize
Katrin Alvarez (born in Güstrow) is a qualified lawyer and editor. She has published several surrealist satires and a novel.
Alvarez has exhibited in Israel, Canada, Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, and the USA. In 2007, she won the Allan Edwards Award from the Federation of Canadian Painters (SFCA) in Vancouver. In 2011, one of her works was selected for the "Phantasten Museum" at the Palais Palffy in Vienna. In 2012, Alvarez received the Grande Médaille d'Or MCA Cannes Azur and was awarded the Leonardo Prize (Painting) at the 2012 Chianciano Art Award.
"Alvarez's paintings do not intend to explain, educate, or teach," wrote Dr. Gosciniak (psychiatrist and neurologist). "Nor do they contain a message. However, they dig deep into the consciousness of the attentive viewer. Like a stone thrown into a lake, the spreading ripples can expand the horizon of emotions and dreams and open a new path to the deepest inner self."
My images are reports from within. Most are created when reality meteorites impact my universe. But there's also a huge storage space where all the visions, stories, and daydreams or nightmares are stored – they just need to be made visible. Shadow fish flying past my eyes – sometimes I can catch them. I'm a junkie; my addiction is colors and shapes."
