I was born in 1949 in Vienna and have lived in Lower Austria since 1960. After graduating from high school in 1967, I went on to study veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, where I received my doctorate in 1975.

In 1974, I began working as the head of the diagnostic department at the Federal Institute for Virus Disease Control in Vienna-Hetzendorf. From 1997 to 1999, I served as deputy head and interim head of the institute. Afterward, I relocated to Mödling and took over the management of the Virology Group.

In 1999, I completed my habilitation in virology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, and became a veterinarian specializing in clinical laboratory diagnostics. In 2001, I transitioned to the central office as a consultant for international gender equality policy at the European Union and the United Nations, representing Austria on various expert committees.

I retired in 2012 after a long and fulfilling career in veterinary science, research, and international policy.
