The Short Story Of The Beginning
Masalcı (Story Teller) says:
A quote commonly attributed to Tolstoy is: "All great literature is one of two stories: a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.” In this story, "a stranger comes to town". But the lights that the stranger sees from afar as the lights of the city are the lights of the boats in a bay, and it does not take long for him to realise this as he walks towards the sea.
There is silence everywhere, and if it were not for the crackling of dry branches and leaves as you walk, it would seem that time has stood still. The melodies of the nocturnal bird, singing as if to spread its joy, also accompany his walk, and when he reaches the beach, the first lights of the morning appear from the distant hills.
The stranger knows what water is, but for some reason, he has never been in it. He takes off his shoes and puts one foot in the water. He felt an icy coolness. At that moment, an old fisherman, who had returned early from fishing, showed the big fish in his hand and said to himself, or as if he were talking to the public: "This is the sea! "Sometimes a big fish comes out, sometimes a small one".
After pulling his boat to the shore, while he was passing by the stranger, had spoken directly to him, as if giving a secret: "This water has a magic. Whoever enters into it can never come out again!", and walks away. As the stranger stands there with mixed feelings, not knowing what to do, the lines of Orhan Veli's poem "Hürriyete Doğru" (Towards Freedom) come to his mind. Coincidentally, Timur Selçuk's (composed the same poem) melodies spread with a serene calm from a boat that has arrived in the morning. (With respect to Orhan Veli and Timur Selçuk)
"Hey...
What are you waiting for, throw yourself into the sea:
Someone is waiting behind you, don't worry;
Don't you see, freedom is everywhere;
Be a sail, be an oar, be a rudder, be a fish, be water;
Go wherever you can..."
He takes off his clothes and strolls towards the sea. He realizes that he will not sink if he does not struggle. He lies on the sheet like sea, with a feeling of happiness that he cannot fully define. The sun is dawning, the night bird continues to sing, Timur Selçuk continues his song, and a few distant stars can be seen with their faint lights in the sky in a riot of colors.He realizes that the chill that spreads to his bones, this time comes from the feeling of freedom, and he stays there...
"Art is freedom!"
