Mara Montagna
Painting has always been a passion for Mara Montagna, but her educational and professional journey has led her to teach for 42 years. The recurring themes in her works draw inspiration from this experience and are often linked to childhood, nature, and the female image. For Mara, imagination and dreams are equally important and sometimes help us endure reality and make it acceptable.
Colors speak to her, and she plays with them, creating harmonious or contrasting combinations depending on what she wants to emphasize. Matching them to fabrics is the most enjoyable part of her work, precisely because what she wants to express must have character, and she draws a significant contribution from them. For Mara, art can symbolically express content that can touch us deeply. "We want bread, but also roses," said Rosa Luxemburg, and Mara firmly believes this: art is not a luxury, it is not the property of just a few. Art belongs to everyone.
Mara Montagna has always loved painting since she was a child, but her educational and professional journey led her to teach for 42 years. She managed to bring painting back into her life by attending night school at her hometown art high school. This experience allowed her to give her painting a professional edge and pushed her to search for her artistic identity.
She often uses a mixed technique of acrylic and collage, creating intense images with a rich variety of textures achieved by combining different textures, acrylic colors, and rhinestones. She loves creating works with vibrant colors and strong contrasts, both figurative and abstract, often represented in large formats and on various media.
Her favorite subjects are a tribute to nature, whether animals, landscapes, or flowers. Other recurring subjects are female figures who tell their stories and feelings. She has exhibited in various Italian cities, such as Palermo, Genoa, Milan, Mantua, and Parma, and abroad in Luxembourg, Barcelona, Washington, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Madrid, and Zaragoza.
