Varda Breger

Varda Breger

Civilization ignores the elegies of Mother EARTH" Varda Breger explores in her paintings and poems (in Hebrew and English) ecology and social life on our vulnerable planet.

Uses mixed media, including transparent and opaque elements, primarily on paper. She Streams of spontaneous running paint cages a blurred deer, rudely trodden upon by her shoe or a car tire. An elephant with a broken task emerges from chaos. An abused nude body of a woman, her head hidden with a fig leaf, and a knife and fork beside her to remind us of murder in the family. The threat of nuclear weapons is always on her mind (MSc. Chemistry, Tel Aviv University & BSc., Technion, Israel). The atrocities and the cruel war in my own country, in Ukraine, and other places drive her to act for Peace with her tools. Inspired by the return of migrating birds at the revived Hula Lake, she wrote:

FOLLY WARS
Migratory birds,
from north to south and back,
season after season,
millions of miles.
Fraternity of feathers caressing the planet.

No fuel, no flag, no borders, No Gods.
No Folly Wars.

"I believe that all the planet's inhabitants are part of a chain, linked together, and We Humans must keep the future of our unique home-EARTH a planet of life."

Varda Breger was born in Israel (1937) and lives and works in Tel Aviv. Married to Dov, three children, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
After a career as a chemistry teacher, always painting, she turned completely to art and poetry. She has been a member of the European Artists and the Tel Aviv Artists and Sculptors Associations since 1986. She was elected to AFC- Artists for Conservation, ANF-Artists for Nature, the General Union of Writers and the Hebrew Writers Association in Israel, and the organization of Women Wage Peace.
