Biography

Alisa Chernova is a contemporary expressionist artist born in Ukraine and based in Marbella, Spain. With a professional background in psychology, psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, and art therapy, she brings a deep understanding of human emotional experience into her artistic practice.

Her work explores the hidden architecture of the inner world: identity, memory, anxiety, control, vulnerability, loss, and transformation. Rather than illustrating psychological concepts, Chernova translates states that are often difficult to verbalize into a visual language of restrained color, contrast, texture, fragmentation, and symbolic detail.

Her practice has developed through several interconnected bodies of work, including In the Company of Sigmund Freud. Emotions, Illusion of Control, and Phantom of Memory. Across these series, she examines the tension between the conscious and unconscious, personal identity and imposed roles, the desire for control, and the inevitability of change.

In her recent work, Chernova is moving further beyond the figurative image, exploring abstraction, mixed media, material fragmentation, and the transformation of the human figure. This evolution continues her central inquiry: how can art make visible what exists within us but often remains unseen?

Chernova’s work has been presented internationally across Europe, Asia, and the United States. She lives and works in Marbella, Spain.
