Artist Statement
Two years ago, Friedhard Meyer began developing a new acrylic technique that he calls “New Pointillism.” In this method, acrylic colour dots stamped onto the canvas are outlined in black, creating a significant increase in the luminosity of the colours.
The production of these paintings requires a considerable amount of time. This highly meditative process is characterised by extreme slowness and stands in stark contrast to the fast-paced digital age. It invites the viewer to appreciate the slow and conscious creation of beauty.
The experience of standing in front of one of these paintings should be a journey into stillness, a rare quality in today’s art world, where shock value is often placed above substance.
The paintings convey a message about the necessity of slowness and contemplation in a fast-moving age.
