Gro Heining
Biography
Gro Heining is a self-taught Norwegian painter and inspirational teacher (b. 1949). She first exhibited in 1982 in Norway, subsequently participating in more than 50 exhibitions in Norway, the USA, Spain, and Italy. From 1987, she lived for several years in the picturesque landscape of Santa Fe, New Mexico. When she arrived for the first time, it was as if she were returning to her creative origins.
Exhibitions, experimental painting workshops, book illustration, and animal designs for T-shirts influenced her growth as an artist.
From 2014 to 2022, she divided her time between a mountain village in Andalusia, Spain, and her home in Norway.
She works with various techniques: acrylic, water-based oil, oil pastel, collage, water-soluble pigments on paper, and mixed media. In the past year, she has focused on writing just as much as painting.
Artist Statement
Drawing and painting have always been a way for Gro to express herself. Nature is her primary source of inspiration. Painting for Gro is a meditative state of being, where she connects to the elements and the rhythm of nature, weaving dreams and visions into her artwork.
Gro's intention in making art is to communicate that all things are connected with one another and with the universe. The interconnectedness of all things in nature represents a deep unity within herself. She also considers her work as that of a teacher, bringing the language of colors to the viewer and offering hope for the future.
