Biography

My name is Jose Oliveira. I was born in Africa, in Mozambique, which was colonised by Portugal at that time. I am of Portuguese nationality and have been a UK resident since 2001. I am based in Westminster, London, where I work as an artist and painter.

I am divorced and the father of two lovely children, thanks to God.

After so many years and difficult times in my life, I could write a book about my life with many chapters and real stories. After 52 years, with the help of God, I finally began to understand my life and stopped to think about what I should do.

As my connection with God is very strong and close, I asked God, “What should I do with my life, Lord?” The next day, after waking up, I already knew what to do. God told me: “Start painting!”

I also know that I was born with many gifts from God, and God gave me one that truly matches me. Step by step, day by day, night by night, dream by dream, I have been receiving messages from God about what to do since I started creating my first painting, which was in oil.

Within three years, I built up my presence on social media, became recognised, and won several international awards abroad, including well-known awards such as the Leonardo da Vinci Prize on two occasions.

I have created paintings using different techniques, including oil and acrylic, and I can also work in watercolour. At the moment, I mainly use acrylic, and the canvas size I use most often is 30 x 40 cm.

From the beginning, I created much of my artwork on canvas through personal requests, using photographs of family, friends, and other subjects. These commissions have included wedding paintings, birthday paintings, graduation paintings, biographies, and other important moments that people have asked me to represent.

I am still well known for this type of work, but a very special moment came later when God told me to begin creating a different kind of artwork: collage on canvas using wax from candles over a drawn and painted surface. I use wax from burning candles and apply it on top as part of the collage.

It is an amazing feeling and an amazing technique that I love very much, and it gives me a deep connection with God. This artwork came to me as an idea from God, and I call it “Unique Artwork as a Collage,” using wax from candles.

I have also created statues using structures made from cardboard and then applying wax on top as a collage. I have completed two sculptural artworks titled:

Three Angels
Internationally awarded

The Four Horses of the Apocalypse
Internationally awarded

At the moment, I am working on my future website, but you can find me on social media.

I am also a member of ACN Arts & Culture Network. I also have my own company as an artist and painter, registered with the UK Government under the name ARTS JR PAINTER.

I wish everyone all good and all the best!
Remember: never give up on what you like to do in life, and always follow your dreams.

Many kind regards,

Jose Oliveira

Artist Statement

As an artist and painter, I have worked in oil painting, although most of the time I now use acrylic paint on canvas.

As a very inspirational and spiritual person, with my faith in God always present, I began creating my unique artwork on canvas using a “Collage” technique inspired by an idea from God.

It is an incredible moment and feeling when I create this work, experiencing the candles burning and the wax being applied on top of the drawing and painted canvas until the unique collage artwork is complete.

I am also able to create artwork using watercolours and pastels, which I plan to explore further in the near future.
