GLOBAL COLLECTORS ART PRIZE | MASTERS DEFINING THE FUTURE OF ART

Biography

Robert (Roberto) Falcone was born in Italy to a Slovenian mother and an Italian father. He and his mother, Sophie Kosir, immigrated to the United States when he was a young child, where he was raised by his mother and her extended Slovenian family in Cleveland, Ohio.

He has been making music and visual art since the mid-1960s. He drew cartoons for the Cleveland State newspaper, The Cauldron, from 1969 to 1970, and worked in the production and design space at Kent State University in 1970. His initial intention was to pursue a career in art and music, but he took a detour to study his newfound passion in medicine.

After establishing himself as a respected trauma and critical care surgeon, educator, medical leader, researcher, and international lecturer, he once again began to create art and has pursued both of his passions since.

Falcone has a BA from Kent State University, an MD from The Ohio State University, and an MFA in Visual Art from Columbus College of Art & Design. Robert has had over 40 national and international solo and featured exhibitions, over 100 online and physical group shows, and his images have been reproduced in 50 books, monographs, or exhibition catalogues to date. He is represented in the USA by the Lindsay Gallery and in Europe by PAKS Gallery.

Artist Statement

I produce art. The medium is paint and might include sound, photography, sculpture, music, objects, or a combination. I usually work alone, but occasionally in collaboration. My work tells a story. It could be your story.

In my series Homage to Banksy, I repurpose his memes to tell my story of deep disappointment in the world I see around me.
