Morris call herself a sensory illusionist. Her work, trademarked as, Sculpted Paintings, is the integration of color, light and texture with many surface variations and includes mixed media. The landscape paintings have the effect of a layered topography and atmosphere that exist in real life, while using texture to give the illusion to intimate clouds, mountains and water. The concept creates an impression of what exists and allow the viewer to bring their own conception and memories to experience the moment. This style is also evident in the other subject matter paintings, including the politically based flag paintings as well as the abstract work.

This unique combination of sculpting, design, and the integrating of diverse elements sets each of her “Sculpted Paintings” as a three-dimensional image on a two- dimensional plane. In her most recent paintings, the use of the founding documents of The United States, provides a visual connection between where we have come from, and where we are going as a nation. The Bill of Rights, The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are a subtle call to action to protect democracy, with the use of other iconic images to inspire and remind the viewer to remember what is important to them.

The flag paintings reflect our need to find resolution. In 2014, Scooter wrote: We the people, are the many, bound by love of country, hardened by the struggle, softened by the love, made determined by the need, and resolved to make our place in these United States. We the people are called upon as one of the many to join together with others though we are of different faiths and color and gender, we must find ourselves joined as one of the many, part of the whole, working together with tolerance, wisdom and hope to make our shared differences work for a united purpose. The prose, We Are The Many, and Scooter’s images are now part of her film, “Tipping Point-We Are The People. Those who love Morris’ work are often inspired by the powerful sense of what is both familiar and extraordinary.

I was lucky to have grown up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where there were incredible arts programs, including through the Carnegie Museum. I began my arts education through public education and in the museum programs. Later, I attended Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia and Rome, Italy. I left school for a year to move to Los Angeles, California and received my B.F.A. from University of Southern California. Subsequently, I took post graduate courses at UCLA. After, moving to New Mexico, I was greatly influenced by the atmosphere and environment and that influenced me to evolve the style of painting I call, Sculpted Paintings. My work has been shown throughout the United States and in Europe and I am currently exhibiting in Santa Fe, New Mexico and New York.
