Matthew Mark (MCM)

Matthew Mark (MCM)

MCM and his story in contemporary art begins when he was a child. He developed a fascination and interest in drawing figures from comic books, morning cartoons, and from pop culture. At a very early age Matthew Mark (MCM) started learning how to draw as it was an escape and outlet for him. He was a boy that did a lot of things on his own growing up so when he first started doing art, developing this skill and talent, it was not a problem for him at all staying focus on this one activity.

When he was just seven years of age, he was awarded the best student in art in his grade and class in elementary school. It gave him something to strive for and look forward to. It forged a path for him to start developing a passion on what he wanted to become when he became an adult. Visual artist was in his DNA. As Matthew Mark grew older into adolescent and into young adulthood, he was curious on things of the unknown. He saw that art could explore this element, mediate the different types of force & energy and start revealing truths. He wanted to change things in the world. Disclosing things that are injustice and corruption was also important.

Looking through his lens, he points out that art is many things including love, peace & beauty. The chaos, destruction, and momento mori also lingers in this realm. MCM sees that doing art can open minds, change & think of new perspectives, and help stir the ship on where our world is heading socially and culturally. What inspires his art varies from time to time. He sees that inspiration can come on any given day at any given time. Nature, music, movies, companionship,  and love are just some of those things. At present time he is an artist during this metamodern era.

“When I make art, I try to think about it as something separate from the normal world - as if art is a world of its own. My goal is to create artwork that is meaningful, powerful, influential, symbolic and will have an impact in the world. I explore humanity through my thoughts, feelings, and emotions subjectively. I take what I have seen, heard, read about, or experienced and incorporate these elements expressively back into my art. I delve into the realms of the light and dark and everything else in between. My art is disclosing what is already known and also, the unknown.” – MCM
