Biography

Belinha Silva is a contemporary Portuguese artist, born in Lisbon and based in the Algarve, Portugal. After pursuing a career in finance across Europe, she chose to devote herself to art, transforming an innate passion into a distinctive and deeply personal artistic language.

A self-taught artist, Belinha explores painting, mixed media, sculpture, and collage. Her creations draw inspiration from emotions, memories, imagination, and sociocultural contexts. Bringing together figurative, abstract, surrealist, and Pop Art influences, she creates colourful, vibrant compositions that invite viewers to discover unexpected forms, characters, and visual connections.

In 2017, she invented her original technique, Porcelain Fusion on Canvas, combining acrylic painting on canvas with painted porcelain fragments fired repeatedly at temperatures ranging from 720°C to 980°C. Through the interplay of colour, texture, and fired porcelain, she transforms these materials into unique contemporary compositions. The contrast between the painted surface and the physical fragments of porcelain gives her works a distinctive character, establishing this original technique as a defining element of her artistic practice.

In August 2026, Belinha recognised that her artistic journey had gradually given rise to a singular creative universe, which she named BELINIUM. More than a collection of artworks, BELINIUM brings together her imagination, artistic techniques, and visual explorations in a world of its own. Each creation becomes a different expression of this constantly evolving universe.

Belinha Silva’s work has received international recognition, with more than 21 awards and distinctions since 2022, in addition to numerous certificates of artistic recognition. Among her honours are the title of Ambassador of Portuguese Art in 2024 and International Artist of the Year in 2025. On 24 October 2026, she is also due to receive a medal and diploma from the prestigious Société Académique Arts-Sciences-Lettres in Paris.

Through her art, Belinha explores the relationship between material, emotion, and imagination. Her work invites viewers into a world where familiar forms are transformed, materials acquire new meaning, and unexpected associations open the door to different ways of seeing and interpreting reality.

Artist Statement

Art comes from my soul. It is the language through which I express my emotions, memories, imagination, and perception of the world. My artistic practice is an ongoing exploration of art, colour, form, texture, and material, through which I create a universe that moves between abstraction, figuration, surrealism, and Pop Art.

I am driven by the freedom to experiment, invent, and transform familiar materials into unexpected visual experiences. Each artwork begins with an emotion, an idea, or an intuition, then evolves through a process of discovery in which imagination guides my gestures and unconventional associations open up new artistic possibilities.

In 2017, I invented Porcelain Fusion on Canvas, my original technique that combines acrylic painting with porcelain fragments that are painted and then fired at high temperatures. By bringing together the fragility of porcelain, the permanence of fired fragments, and the expressive freedom of painting, I create compositions in which materials interact, contrast, and acquire new meanings. The fragments become an integral part of the artwork, where their shapes, textures, and distinctive presence take on a new dimension. Porcelain thus breaks free from its traditional uses to become a living medium of creation, transformed into an original contemporary artistic language.

My artistic universe, BELINIUM, embodies this ongoing journey of exploration and invention. It brings together my different techniques, visual languages, and imaginative worlds, allowing each creation to exist as a singular expression while belonging to a broader, constantly evolving universe.

Through my work, I seek to awaken curiosity, invite interpretation, and encourage viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible. I want my art to open the doors to unexpected worlds, where emotion meets imagination and every fragment, colour, and form can reveal a new story.
