Guiscard Seebohm

Guiscard Seebohm

Biography

Guiscard Seebohm, known artistically as SeebohmART, has been painting since early childhood. Although his professional career led him into the world of science, where he is now a distinguished university professor holding a chair in physiology, with particular expertise in cellular electrophysiology and molecular biology, art has remained a constant and inseparable part of his life. At university level, he lectures in both natural sciences and the arts.

With more than 200 scientific publications to his name, Seebohm brings an exceptional depth of intellectual curiosity and analytical thinking to his artistic practice. For him, science and art are not opposing disciplines, but complementary ways of exploring, understanding, and interpreting the world.

While his scientific work seeks to uncover the fundamental principles underlying life, his art explores how reality can be reimagined, distilled, and expressed through colour, form, and perception.

His artistic language is characterised by reduction, precision, and a remarkable sensitivity to visual composition. Complex impressions, structures, and emotions are distilled into essential forms and carefully balanced fields of colour. Rather than presenting a complete or immediately recognisable image, his paintings invite the viewer to participate in the process of interpretation.

Through the interplay of abstraction and recognition, each observer is encouraged to reconstruct the image, discover its underlying meaning, and establish an individual relationship with the work.

This dialogue between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer lies at the heart of SeebohmART's philosophy. His paintings offer a delicate balance between clarity and ambiguity, intellectual structure and emotional resonance, inviting multiple interpretations while preserving an underlying sense of precision.

In his current artistic exploration, SeebohmART focuses on translating the experience of music into visual language. Inspired by the dynamics, tonalities, rhythms, and emotional dimensions of musical perception, he seeks to give sound a visual presence through colour, movement, and composition.

His canvases become visual interpretations of an essentially intangible experience, transforming the temporal nature of music into a spatial and visual expression.

At the intersection of science, music, and visual art, SeebohmART continues to explore the relationship between analytical thought and intuitive perception. His work is an ongoing dialogue between logic and emotion, structure and freedom, observation and imagination - an artistic endeavour to reveal the extraordinary within the essential.

Artist Statement

For me, color is an essential expression of life itself - a language through which emotions, form, matter, and movement find their voice. It is both the substance of visual expression and the medium through which the intangible becomes visible.
