Jimmie Marler
Biography
Jimmie Lee Marler is a distinguished artist whose paintings and drawings are known for their exceptional photographic realism. Throughout an accomplished 48-year career in education, he taught art, computer science, and mathematics at both the high school and collegiate levels. His academic appointments included more than 25 years at Drury University, 30 years at Southwest Baptist University, 5 years at Southwest Missouri State University, and 38 years in secondary education. In addition to his teaching career, Marler has generously donated more than 2,000 works of art to charitable organizations. His faith serves as a significant influence on his artistic endeavors, particularly his religious-themed drawings and paintings.
Marler's educational achievements include an Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern College in Oklahoma City, a Bachelor of Science degree from College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, a Master of Arts degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, a Master's degree in Computer Science from Columbia University in New York, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia Pacific University in California.
Over the course of his artistic career, Marler has produced more than 16,000 drawings and paintings. His work is represented in over a dozen museums worldwide. In recognition of his contributions to the arts and community, he was inducted into the Dunklin County, Missouri, Library Hall of Fame on October 21, 2007. He was also honored as the Marquis Who's Who Top Artist for 2023 and received the Marquis Who's Who Man of the Year Award for 2024.
Marler's artwork has received significant international recognition. His works have been exhibited at PAKS museums in Vienna, Austria; Castle Heidenreichstein in Lower Austria; and Munich, Germany. His art was also featured in the prestigious Modern Art Masters exhibitions at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France, in 2022, 2023, and 2025. His works will remain on display in select PAKS museums through December 2026. Additionally, his artwork has appeared in numerous national and international publications, including the cover of the seventeenth edition of the Marquis Who's Who Millennium Magazine.
His artistic legacy extends to more than 100 local churches across Missouri and Texas, where many of his paintings are displayed. Marler has earned numerous awards in local, county, and state competitions. He was also selected as a state finalist in NASA's 1985-1986 Teacher in Space Program.
Marler's work has been featured in the European publication Art from Leonardo da Vinci to the Present, where he was included alongside 242 artists and celebrated masters such as Albrecht Dürer, Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Leonardo da Vinci. Among his many honors, Marler received the prestigious El Greco Fine Arts Award, recognizing the creativity, originality, and distinctive character of his artistic style. His work and biography were featured in the accompanying El Greco publication, distributed through major booksellers, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon. The award celebrates artists whose work embodies the innovative spirit of one of history's most influential masters.
His recent and upcoming publications include Western Cowboys, a collection featuring approximately 120 cowboy drawings accompanied by biographical sketches. Marler has also been accepted to exhibit four works at the Amsterdam Whitney International Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Additionally, he will be featured in the European publication Masterpieces and Their Creators of the 21st Century, which includes a dedicated section highlighting his artwork and biography.
Most recently, Marler was honored with the Noble Art Award, a distinction rarely bestowed upon living artists. As part of this recognition, his biography and artwork will be featured in an upcoming publication available through Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
