Mayada Shibir
Mayada Shibir’s artistic journey is rooted in a lifelong drive to explore the world through creativity—pushing boundaries, questioning the familiar, and discovering new forms of expression. She views art as an open space of infinite possibilities, where each work invites viewers to step beyond the expected.
Her process is guided by curiosity and a fascination with materials. She experiments with raw and recycled elements, fabrics, minerals, glass, and unconventional techniques. Often, a single texture or color becomes the starting point for layered, evolving compositions. Free from rigid rules of medium or composition, she lets intuition shape each piece organically.
For Mayada Shibir, painting is a way to rediscover the ordinary, transform the familiar, and, at times, rebel against convention. Her recent series, Exploration of New Dimensions, offers a multisensory dialogue between texture, form, and perception, examining material value, personal interpretation, and the emotional depth of color.
Beyond her studio practice, Mayada Shibir is dedicated to cultural exchange and artistic dialogue. In 2021, she became Director of the Shibir Nilotic Gallery for Modern African Art—founded by her father, Professor Osman Shibir—relocating it to Berlin. Continuing his legacy, she has expanded its mission to present both academic and contemporary perspectives on the art and history of indigenous Nilotic tribes while championing underrepresented artists.
The gallery is more than an exhibition space—it is a cultural landmark and a hub for innovation, research, and collaboration. Through it, Mayada Shibir creates opportunities for emerging talent, fosters cross-cultural dialogue, and amplifies diverse artistic voices, celebrating Africa’s heritage and ensuring its influence inspires generations to come.
Mayada Shibir is a contemporary artist and Gallery Director whose Afro-European heritage shapes her art and curatorial vision. Formerly working in healthcare in England and Germany, she developed deep insights into human narratives and cross-cultural exchange. She founded an England–Germany art exchange project to foster collaboration and dialogue. Influenced by her family’s creative legacy, she explores identity, heritage, and cultural discourse through music, poetry, and visual storytelling.
In 2021, she became Director of the Shibir Nilotic Gallery for Modern African Art, expanding its contemporary reach while promoting accessibility and immersive audience engagement. Her work has been shown in major cities worldwide, including London, New York, Brussels, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Monaco, Barcelona, Miami, and Berlin. Awards include the TOP Artist Award (2023), 7° International Prize Leonardo da Vinci (2025), and International Prize Artists on the Cote d’Azur (2025).
